What Is The Triad In NC?

What Is The Triad In NC?

Simply put, the Triad – also known as the Piedmont Triad – consists of the area surrounding three major towns; High Point, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem. Residents and tourists alike love the ability to split their time between this trio of cities, which makes it the perfect destination for anyone who wants to witness the Southeast in all its glory and richness.

The Piedmont Triad is in the southeastern US, near the central area of North Carolina. This 12 county region is situated between New York and Florida, as well as halfway between Atlanta GA and Washington DC.

The vibrant area is home to nearly 1.6 million people, many of whom have chosen to relocate or retire here due to its robust economy, progressive healthcare facilities, as well as a lively art scene among many other factors.

Why Is It Called The Piedmont Triad?

‘Piedmont’ is a combination of two Italian words that mean ‘the base of a mountain.’ So mainly, it refers to the middle region of North Carolina that falls between the Atlantic Ocean and the Appalachian Mountains.

The three neighboring cities – hence the word ‘trio’ – are quite popular due to their diverse culture and friendly competition. The budding spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship here has also given rise to a need for a trained and diligent workforce, leading to approximately 900,000 vacancies currently.

Town/Cities Within The Triad

Now that we know what cities are part of NC Triad Area, let’s explore a little deeper.

There are twelve counties and 62 municipalities that make up the Piedmont Triad area and the towns include: Asheboro, Burlington, Kernersville, King, Lexington, Mount Airy, Pfafftown, Reidsville, Seagrove, Summerfield, and Thomasville.

Two of these towns, Jamestown and Elon, were previously voted as two of the “12 Best Places To Live In North Carolina” in 2016.

These towns and their municipalities have made the Triad a robust transportation and manufacturing hub in the area. But that’s not all; it’s also home to 20 higher education institutions such as the Elon University that offers one of the USA’s leading undergraduate study programs and contributes heavily to the local art scene.

Thinking About Relocating?

The neighborhoods in the Triad have some beautiful features, including an extremely deep sense of community. The real estate here includes new apartments as well as historic homes; in short, there is something for everyone.

If you are looking for properties that will put you near a raging art scene and a young vibe, then you should consider living in the Triad. The mountains are barely an hour’s drive away and the big city feel of Charlotte is also only 45 minutes away.
